I have been very impressed with FM2012 and while there is nothing official to say that there will be a Football Manager 2013 (FM2013) I’m going to speculate and say that there probably will be a new Football Manager game so with that in mind…What would you like to see in Football Manager 2013?

Football Manager 2013 Wishlist

I said this last year but am improvement to the very limited set piece creator, set specific player runs while also being able to specify where players stand eg set 2 players to block the keeper etc

When scouting players I want to know exactly how they compare to my players in every postion they play in rather than just their natural one… Just like it does for your own players when you request a scout report on them.

Ability to buy youngsters and loan them back to their club for a season or two. Playing for my reserves can’t be as good as a year or two at a Championship club plus the club then might be more willing to sell.

Interviewing for job. Granted if a club wants a manager then a interview is not really required they are simply hired but there are jobs out there that you should have to interview for. Martin O’Neil didn’t get the England job because he didn’t interview well (he actually had a opinion.) Are you planning on bringing youth players in? Experienced players? Moneyball approach? Long ball or pass and move? etc

Anyway that is all for now. I’ll add more when I think of them.

What would you like to see in Football Manager 2013?

Yes they are all what you’d consider high profile choices and I suspect I’ll see much better films over the course of the year but these are the ones I’m looking forward to:

Prometheus

The gist: A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
My view: It’s directed by Ridley Scott, it’s the future and it’s sci-fi what more is there to say. Well Damon Lindelof is one of the writers which can’t be a bad thing.
Release Date: 1 June 2012 (UK)
(Fake) Official site: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/

Skyfall (Bond 23)

The gist: Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
My view: It’s fair to say Quantum of Solace was a pant of a convoluted mess but I’m hoping for a return to ‘Casino Royale‘ form. With Sam Mendes directing and a cast including Javier Bardem & Ralph Fiennes it’s looking good on paper. I’m a Bond geek so fingers crossed.
Release Date: 26 October 2012 (UK)
Official site: http://www.facebook.com/JamesBond007

The Avengers

The gist : Nick Fury and the international agency S.H.I.E.L.D. bring together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki & his various membered army.
My view: This has been setup for years over the course of the generally pretty good Iron Man , The Incredible Hulk, Thor & Captain America and with Joss Whedon directing I have every confidence it’ll be fantastic.
Release Date: 27 April 2012 (UK)
Official site: http://marvel.com/avengers_movie

Brave

The gist: Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.
My view: Ever since I saw the early concept art for this my attention was pricked. Pixar tackling the Scottish Highlands will surely be something to see and I’m sure it will be more of a ‘Up‘ rather than a ‘Cars 2‘ although I could be wrong.
Release Date: 13 August 2012 (UK)
Official site: http://www.disney.com/Brave/

Django Unchained

The gist: With the help of his mentor, a slave-turned-bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.
My view: Inglorius Basterds was a revenge flick disguised as a World War II film and while it was far from perfect I throughly enjoyed it. In Django Unchained Quentin Tarantino applies the same methodology to the Civil War era USA. Only time will tell if it is as good.
Release Date: 26 December 2012 (UK)
(Fake) Official site: http://www.djangounchained.org/

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The gist: Bilbo Baggins, a Hobbit, journeys to the Lonely Mountain accompanied by a group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure taken from them by the dragon Smaug.
My view: It was always going to be troublesome to follow the Lord of the Rings trilogy and early production of this was problematic (Guillermo del Toro was meant to direct) but with Peter Jackson back in the directors chair we know this will look stunning and the source material is fantastic. While The Hobbit is generally seen as a lesser book to the Lord of the Rings trilogy it is my personal favorite so I’m hopeful for this film.
Release Date: 14 December 2012 (UK)
Official site: http://www.thehobbitblog.com/

The Dark Knight Rises

The gist: Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, the terrorist leader Bane arrives in Gotham City, pushing it and its police force to their limits, forcing its former hero Batman to resurface after taking the fall for Harvey Dent’s crimes.
My view: Batman Begins was good, The Dark Knight was better and I suspect Christopher Nolan’s third and final entry in the Batman franchise will raise the bar even higher. The hype will be hard to live up to but with villain Bane (Tom Hardy) and antihero Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) I think this will be fantastic.
Release Date: 20 July 2012 (UK)
Official site: http://www.thedarkknightrises.com/

Honourable Mentions

The Five-Year Engagement: A comedy that charts the ups and downs of an engaged couple’s relationship.

The Gangster Squad: A chronicle of the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.

The Gangster Squad: A chronicle of the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.

Yesterday I managed to pickup a fantastic print from Mondo by Tom Whalen. Was very pleased to get it because (as always) the prints sold out in a matter of minutes. I really love the stuff Mondo commission but it is so hard to get at times it’s silly. For once I was a happy camper and can’t wait for it to arrive.

Sports Interactive Ltd. & SEGA® Europe Ltd. today unveiled the latest version of their successful football management simulation series, Football Manager™ 2012. Planned to be in stores before Christmas, Football Manager 2012 will once again allow you to take charge of your favourite football team and put your managerial skills to the test.

Adaptive Layout - Club Screen (click to enlarge)

The award-winning Football Manager series has now sold in excess of 7 million copies worldwide and has topped the UK and many European PC charts for the last seven years, with over 108 weeks at no.1 in the UK to date.

“We’re delighted to finally be able to start talking about Football Manager 2012” said Miles Jacobson, Studio Director at Sports Interactive. “It’s another year of evolution, with some revolution thrown in for good measure so we’re pretty sure our dedicated communities, and hopefully lots of new people too, get to play and enjoy the game when it’s released later in the year.”

Team Report - Tactics Analysis (click to enlarge)

Counting over 800 new features, not including changes to the rules of the games 50+ leagues, Football Manager 2012 promises to be the most realistic, immersive and playable football management simulation ever for any fan who has ever dreamed of making the big decisions, both on and off the field.

Key new & improved features for Football Manager 2012:

Transfers & Contracts – significant changes to the transfer and contract systems, including loyalty bonuses, better implementation of amateur and youth contracts, an improved transfer centre and the ability to lock areas of the contract negotiation when you aren’t prepared to budge. This helps you to manage your budgets and gives you flexibility in what you offer money hungry players, or agents, as incentives.

Team Report - Position Strength (click to enlarge)

Scouting improvements – using several real life scouting reports, a new in-game report has been devised which includes squad analysis, tactics information and information about goals scored and conceded alongside lots of other scouting improvements, giving you all the information you need to prepare before kick-off and throughout the season.

3D Match Improvements – new animations, a whole new crowd system, improved weather system, more stadiums, plus two brand new cameras – “Behind Goal” and “Director Cam” as well as all other camera angles being reversible – meaning you can watch and analyse every aspect of every game.

Manage Anywhere, Anytime – the ability to add or take away playable nations in your saved game as often as you want. Manage in that country at the start of the next season- meaning you don’t have to stay in the nations which are chosen by you to be playable at the start of your career.

Player Conversation - Tone (click to enlarge)

Tone – a whole new level has been added to team talks and conversations, with the new tone system, which allows you to specify the way you want to say things – be as cool as a cucumber by saying things calmly or throw tea cups around by saying things with passion. There are 6 different tones to choose from with specific comments per tone.

Intelligent Interface – a new adaptive layout system, which means the higher your screen resolution, the more info is easily at your fingertips. The new interface also contains new filters, customisable columns, a new tactics screen, and lots of new overview screens.

Brand New Tutorial – standing separate from the main game, a mode to help new players find their way around the game easily, whilst also offering tips to experienced managers on how to get the most out of the game, as well as a new in-game “how to” system.

Transfer Centre (click to enlarge)

On top of these key innovations, there are lots of areas of the game that have had huge improvements, such as the media system, press conferences, the youth system, newgens, the social networking options, friendlies, international management and many more which will be detailed in a series of video blogs over the coming months, alongside more information about Football Manager 2012.

Intelligent Interface Sneak Peak

You may, or may not, know that Sports Interactive has been supporting the charity War Child now for many years. Every time one of you has bought a copy of Football Manager on PC, Mac or PSP we’ve donated a percentage of the price to War Child raising over £600,000 in the process.

For those not familiar with Warchild; their sole premise is that no child should be affected by war. Unfortunately, this is still not the case, but the work they are doing is providing incredibly valuable to those that still are. You can find out more about War Child by visiting their website: http://www.warchild.org.uk/

A few months ago, Miles Jacobson, the Studio Director here at SI, was asked to go on a trip with War Child so that he could see some of the work that these donations have helped fund. He leaves for this trip in the next few days and will be regularly recording his journey via a blog (when electricity and a net connection allow) which can be found at http://sportsinteractive.wordpress.com/.

If you have a spare few moments over the next couple of weeks, please do check it out (the first post going into more detail about Warchild, where he’s going and what he’s going to be doing is already up) and learn a bit more about this amazing charity which you help support every time you buy a copy of Football Manager.
